Summer Fun

We've had a really fun and busy summer, Kyle and Rhonda were here for a visit from Calgary and we went all over the place. We ventured out to Fort Beausejour on the first day (Kyle wasn't entirely sure the soldiers would have been safe back in the day!)

We had lunch at Cape D'or and toured around, it's a lighthouse down on the ocean about two hours from here, it was a long drive but well worth it.

We walked around the beach in Joggins looking for fossils but no luck!
Aislin loves the outdoors and enjoyed every bit of it.

The next day we went to Melmerby Beach in NewGlasgow (they say it is the warmest waters north of the Carolina's but I don't know about that, it was pretty cold water!) where Grammy joined us and then it was on to the New Glasgow Jubilee, a big music festival that Grampy was working at, we caught the children's show and Aislin had a blast! We then went for lunch and there was a musician playing the guitar and singing, we couldn't keep Aislin still, she got up and danced for him! It was a really long day and she didn't even seemed fazed, we were all pooped but she kept on going!
!
The next night was the fireworks, it rained on Canada Day so they were postponed until the Civic Holiday, it was so beautiful,we weren't sure if Aislin would be afraid of the noise but she sat on my lap in awe! She was so happy
As for an update on Little Miss, she is now running and jumping and had her first milkshake that she drank from a straw! She also really loves to finger paint (or should I say eat finger paint!)
We watched some videos of Aislin from over the past few months and it's just incredible the change in her! We don't really realize being with her everyday but it was just amazing to see the changes in her, she was such a "baby" when we brought her home and now she's our little girl. We are so happy that she's with us and finally now she's met both her brother and her sister! Now if only we could get them to move to the East Coast we'd be all set!

Pool Fun!!!!

Our little girl is all over the place now, she's trying to run and jump and she's into everything! It's wonderful! I never know where I am going to find my toothbrush or her hairbrush! She's a busy little girl and she absolutely loves the pool!!! We've been having a great time.

Six month post placement meeting

Yesterday we met with our social worker in Halifax for our six month post placement interview which China requires. It went really really well! Aislin of course was a little charmer and played beautifully and showed off all her abilities while we were there. She impressed our social worker so much and she felt Aislin was developing really well. She said "whatever you are doing is working perfectly so keep it up"...it's easy I told her when we have such a wonderful child!

Walker in progress

Aislin has finally joined the world of walking the day after she turned 18 months...well actually it's more like I'll walk when I feel like it but I get there quicker if I crawl! She's doing really well, she can walk across the room no problem, though we've already had a bruise and a bloody lip from tumbles..she takes it in stride though like nothing has happened and keeps on going! We had her weighed last week when she went in for her needles, she's still at 22lbs though she seems like she's grown so much. Her hair is getting close to needing to be cut, but I'm just not ready yet. She still isn't really using any words yet but she understands so much...she pretends though that she doesn't understand "no"...haha! I've got her signed up for daycare for the fall, I think it will be harder on me than on her. I have her going before I go back to work so we can make the transition slowly. She is still a smiley little girl with a hearty appetite who also is getting in four more teeth all at the same time! It made for some pretty rough nights but now that the two molars on top have cut through it seems a bit easier on her.
All in all life is perfect....

My favorite picture of Aislin

To our friends and family who don't get to see her alot, this is what Aislin looks like most of the time except when I am the one taking the picture! She's always giggling and laughing (most of the time we have no idea why)! Thanks to the photographer Tara White for capturing this beautiful smile! I added another pic so you can see how much she's grown, she's still wearing 12 months but she's fitting into them much better now! She's wearing her new jammies from her Great Grammy!

Me and My Girl

It's Mother's Day weekend and I am such a proud Mommy. Last year on this day I was having a hard time, I washed some of Aislin's clothes, moped around missing her terribly, wondering where she was, how she was, is she ok, is she healthy, is she getting enough to eat..then John suggested we start on Aislin's room which made me feel so much better, he seemed to sense that I needed to be as close to her as I could and said what better way to spend mother's day than to prepare for our daughter...yep I still get choked up when I think about it. This year though is so special to me. For the first time in my life I get to hold her in my arms and kiss her all I want on Mother's Day! I've waited so long to be her mother and nothing brings more joy to me than that!

We have the first signs of walking

I bought Aislin a little walker toy thing about a month and a half ago...she was terrified of it, wouldn't look at it or play with it....so we kept it out thinking maybe she'd get used to seeing it and then not be so intimidated by it. She's been cruising around the house holding on to the coffee table, chairs for what seems like forever but wanted no part of this little toy. Well the incredible happened! On Sunday night she stood up at it and started walking all over the house. Of course she was banging into walls and all that but she was walking around. She really likes her new found freedom!

CANADIAN CITIZEN

We received in the mail today the news we've been anxiously waiting for, Aislin is officially a Canadian citizen! She now has all the rights and privileges of a Canadian! We are so thrilled! Her letter from the government ends with "Welcome to the Canadian Family"...

On this very same day an article done about us appeared in the "Citizen" which is the local paper....here's what it had to say:

You Me and Baby makes three
JENNIFER DEMPSEY The Amherst Citizen

BROOKDALE – The past two years have been a waiting game for John and Tara Camilleri. But good things come to those who wait and in February, the couple was finally able to bring their adopted daughter Aislin home from China. The Camilleri’s opted for international adoption after discovering it could take up to 10 years to adopt a child domestically. In February 2005, they travelled to Halifax to attend a seminar put on by Children from China, a Halifax-based adoption agency operated by Linda Kirby. The agency works hand-in-hand with Chinese Centre of Adoption Affairs, a Chinese organization that co-ordinates the adoption process in that country. It was at that same meeting the couple decided that was the route they wanted to take and so began their long and arduous journey to parenthood. An extensive background check and home study had to be conducted on the couple by a licensed social worker that took about three-and-a-half months to complete. Once recommended for adoption, their application was submitted to the Department of Community Services. The demand for Chinese children is high as more and more families from throughout the world choose to adopt. Unfortunately, this results in long wait times. “We waited and waited and waited,’’ Tara recalled. “It was very hard.’’ In fact, there were times when the waiting was almost too much for the couple who grew increasingly anxious to become parents. However, in November of 2006, the couple finally received a photograph of their then 11-month-old daughter. Rather than wait for the photo to be delivered to their home, the ecstatic couple drove to Halifax to pick it up in person. They were overwhelmed with emotion when they saw her for the first time. “She was even more beautiful than we had imagined.’’ It was pouring rain that memorable day and Tara said she tucked the precious photo of their daughter beneath her jacket to prevent it from getting wet as they scurried to their vehicle. That same photo now hangs in their living room, a precious reminder of the day they finally got a glimpse of their daughter. Over the next few months, the Camilleri’s and a handful of other Maritime families also adopting children from China were required to attend monthly preparatory meetings in Halifax put on by the adoption agency. Once the final paperwork was complete, the couple flew to Beijing, China, to be united with their child. The agency arranged virtually every detail of the trip including flight, hotels and travel Visas for which the couple was extremely grateful. “There’s no way we could have done it on our own,’’ John admitted The agency even arranged for some sightseeing tours for the couple that spent two days in Beijing before embarking upon the final leg of their trip that was a three-and-a-half hour flight to Guangzhou, the city in which the adoption centre was located. Once there, the Canadian families began to be united with their children. One-by-one, the babies were brought out and placed in the arms of their new parents. “She was the fourth baby,’’ said John. “She liked us right away.’’ Following a brief stay at the adoption centre, they were permitted to return to their hotel with Aislin where they would spend the next 24 hours getting acquainted with her. It was love at first sight for John and Tara, and Aislin spent the next several days nestled in the arms of her parents. “For three days she wouldn’t let us put her down,’’ her adoring father said. In a rare turn of events, the couple was permitted to visit the orphanage where Aislin had spent the first 13-months of her life where she was given the opportunity to see her caregivers one last time. The threesome then returned to Beijing where they spent an additional five days awaiting the completion of Canadian documentation. During that time, a Canadian physician examined Aislin at an international health-care clinic and her passport was finalized. “Although we couldn’t wait to get home with Aislin, we missed China,’’ John admitted. Exhausted by the 23-hour trip home, Aislin spent her first two days in Canada sleeping. She has now settled into her new lifestyle despite having to adjust to a new language. Although slightly developmentally delayed because of a lack of stimulation in the orphanage, Aislin continues to grow in leaps and bounds. In fact, John and Tara are amazed by her developmental progress. “It seems she’s doing something new each day,’’ said her proud father who is director of sales at M&S Food Services in the Amherst Industrial Park. “She just started kissing last week.’’ Although purely on a liquid diet when she arrived in Canada, Aislin is now eating a variety of solid foods. Although a long and tedious process, the couple says they would definitely recommend international adoption. It has been a couple of months since Aislin joined the family and the Camilleri’s say they now feel complete. It has been a bit of an adjustment for the couple that spent the past four years of their marriage without children but they now say they can’t imagine life without their little girl.

April 23rd

Aislin continues to do well, she can feed herself now though she really doesn't like to..I end up wearing whatever she's eating because she'll scream and throw her spoon at me. She also got her first molar! We were very surprised, she's getting two more teeth on the top and then I was looking in her mouth and there was a great big molar coming up right in the back! It's been so wonderful now that the weather is nicer, we made a trip out to get sunhats, sunglasses and sunscreen so we are all set, we can go for walks, play in her sandbox and swing away on the swingset...

Spoiled Again!!!

Today we went to the Courthouse because my co-workers put together a little shower for Aislin and Connor! What a great time it was, they had it all decorated with balloons and streamers and presents and lots of food!
She was particularly smitten with Nancy this time and kept crawling over to her...maybe it's the love of food they have in common!!!

HAPPY EASTER

What a great Easter this has been...yesterday we went to the Moncton Zoo to see the Easter Bunny and they had an Easter egg hunt, it turned out to be kind of cold so we weren't there very long, but Aislin got to see baby bunnies and some other animals that were out at the zoo, she really enjoyed it and smiled the whole time. This morning John and Aislin went hunting around the house for the treats the Easter Bunny left, John would pass Aislin an egg they would find and Aislin would drop it in her basket, I know she didn't have a clue what was going on but she liked the new game she was playing!
P.S. Don't mind the coffee can and wooden spoon beside her, those are her toys of choice these days and of course Keni, Aislin's sidekick is right beside her!

Back from Grammy and Grampy's

We had a wonderful time in Cape Breton this past week. It was alot different from the first time we were there. Aislin didn't cry at all on the 5 hour drive down or back and she slept through the night every night. We were sharing a room so in the morning she'd peek her little face up over the side of her playpen and start laughing as soon as we'd look at her. She also climbed some stairs and pushed herself up into standing from sitting down and now loves to say ya ya ya!

She seems to have become Grammy's girl. As soon as Mom would walk in the room, forget about everything else, it was all about Grammy. It's so neat to see Aislin forming these relationships. We also got to visit with Denise and her new baby Lucas and Auntie Jen, Uncle Dee and Adia and Amado. Then Uncle Doug came by for dinner and won Aislin over by letting her strum his guitar. All in all it was just a really wonderful time, very relaxing and of course we were all spoiled rotten by my Mom and Dad...I love going home.

All better

Well our household is on the mend, Aislin is just about back to normal though she got a little spoiled while she was sick and now screeches when we put her down....that's lots of fun. As soon as she realizes she has more fun playing with her toys than screeching she stops. So it's another lesson for all of us.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Though our little angel is as sick as can be she did have some St. Patty's Day spirit in her after all....

An update...

It's hard to believe John's first little girl is getting ready to have her own baby, Angie is scheduled to have her baby on the 19th and we can't wait to have little Logan in the world! She's going to be a great Mom....it's hard to believe he's almost here, only one more week to go! We love you so much already.
On the home front Aislin is growing leaps and bounds, she has gained almost two pounds since January 31st and can stand on her own without holding on for a little little bit, she can drink from a cup, she can pick the paint from a planter that I painted, she can say Mama and Dada and she puts her lips out so that the dogs will kiss her. We thought it was the dogs who wouldn't leave her alone, turns out it's Aislin! This week (the 15th) will mark 8 weeks that Aislin has been with us and she is doing so well and so are we!

So what do I think of being a Mom!

So far being a mother completely exceeds my expectations:

1.I did not expect to be up three times a night everynight (except Saturday's because that's John's night, but she screams so loud I'm awake anyway!) I'm sure someone must have told me about this but I thought they were just making stuff up! Honestly though, it's those times in the middle of the night when the house is quiet and it's just the two of us and Caper that I treasure. I hold Aislin in my arms, she lays her head against my chest, then looks up and into my eyes as though she's checking to make sure it's me, she smiles and lays her head back down and my heart melts.

2. I did not expect poopy diapers to smell that bad! Holy Cow! I've changed plenty "o" diapers in my day but none and I mean none compare to my little girl! And it seems as though it's those diaper changes that she has the wiggles and we end up with poopy diaper everywhere!!!

3. I did not expect that she wouldn't like the highchair, the car seat or sitting down period! She's pretty curious and sitting down certainly does not allow her to see what's going on! Now that she can stand really well holding on, she wants to stand all the time or be in our arms to see what is happening up here!

4. I did not expect her to like everything she has tried eating so far except green beans. Tonight I am sporting a lovely green bean sweater. She tried them and then ended up throwing them at me and throwing them up.....we'll stick with peas and carrots for now!

5. And mostly I did not expect that I could love someone so so so much that I can't wait until she wakes up in the morning! She is such a character that I literally belly laugh at least ten times a day at the faces she makes and the things she does.

So do I like being a Mom.........there is nothing I've ever done that has made me happier! I love it!

Baby Shower

We thoroughly enjoyed Aislin's special day yesterday at Auntie Jo-Anne's. Mom and Jenny put together a baby shower for Aislin and what a turn out! Aislin received so many beautiful gifts, there were so many people who have been waiting to meet her and she loved every minute of it! It was special also because yesterday was Chinese New Year. In honour of that some guests gave her some traditional Chinese New Year gifts. In China on that day the children receive little red envelopes with money in them.

It was such a wonderful day, it was so nice to see some faces I haven't seen in so long.

Thank you to everyone that came, thank you Mom and Jenny for putting it all together, and thank you Auntie Jo-Anne for decorating your home so beautifully for Aislin and letting us celebrate at your house! Aislin was so tired at the end, she just fell asleep!

Beautiful Girl

Aislin has been teething and so she's had a bit of a rough go the past few nights. She's also started becomming quite shy with other people, which is kind of hard on our friends who love her and have waited so long for her but on a positive note that means the bonding process is in full swing and she knows she is safe with us. So that makes us very happy. With her baby shower coming up this weekend at Auntie Jo-Anne's, I am hoping she'll be her normal pleasant self and not too upset about all the new faces.
All in all, she's doing great still. She can look in the mirror forever it seems and just laugh at herself, so we got a little baby mirror that attaches to her crib and in the morning you wouldn't even know she was awake except for the giggling!!!
Our house is pretty baby proof so there aren't any rooms off limit, so the other day she was playing in her bedroom and I kept peeking in on her and this is what I saw! She wants so desperately to walk!

Belated Birthday Cake

As you know Aislin's 1st birthday was on December 10th, so while my Mom and Dad were here we had a cake to celebrate. It was just the five of us and we had so much fun. I didn't know if Dad and John were going to go for the pink hats but as you can tell they didn't seem to mind a bit! We stripped Aislin down to her diaper and gave her a piece of cake to play with, she was actually tidy about it for the most part, then we threw her in the tub to top off her night....and ours!!!
